Don’t Feel Isolated…AD/HD is Extremely Prevalent in the US.

Just how widespread is AD/HD in America? Well, over six million kids have been diagnosed with it, and considering our population, you know that hundreds of thousands of them live in New York and New Jersey. Smack dab in the center of this demo are kids aged 6-11. Nearly two and half million of them are afflicted!

Here is perhaps more startling information –

  1. Nearly 15 percent of those diagnosed have severe AD/HD.
  2. Close to HALF display moderate symptoms.
  3. Finally, about 40% have what is considered mild AD/HD…still nothing to take lightly.

He has dealt with this for dozens of years and has modern methods to tackle AD/HD in your child. Call Dr. Steven Sussman today for an appointment in his Mountainside, NJ office at (908) 217-8106.

Understanding ADHD as a Real Disability.

Once we understand that it is very much like, say diabetes, we won’t treat it the same way anymore.  Let’s acknowledge something.  We may at times get frustrated with ADHD victims.  I get it.  It can be frustrating.  Do you really think that someone wants to be saddled with that malady?  Of course not… not any more than touretts.

In one’s formative years it becomes very difficult to fit in because peer groups are tough enough as it is without having to leap over another hurdle.  If a friend of your son or daughter displays symptoms of ADHD why not do some research?  If your child appears to show signs of this disorder then seek help.

One of the very best practitioners of ADHD in the New York Metropolitan area is Dr. Steven Sussman.  Please arrange an appointment for your son or daughter at his Staten Island or Mountainside, NJ office as soon as your schedules coincided by calling (908) 217-8106 and get the help that you seek.

Resist the Temptation.

You are at wit’s end.  You have been exposed to your child’s bad behavior once too often.  You lectured, you scolded, you cajoled, you even turned a deaf ear.  Now, you may be considering medication.  Stop!  Medication is NOT resolution.  More often than not, it is “mask” that impedes your ability to truly help your kid.

For your family, counseling may be the answer.  It needs to be affordable, we understand that.  The important thing to always remember is that the end game should be to lessen or even eliminate the use of medication in children.  America has become too “comfortable” hiding its maladies in a fog.

Please check out this website www.sussmankids.com.  Dr. Steven Sussman with offices located in New York and New Jersey would like to visit with your family.  Dr. Sussman will teach parents to cultivate positive behavior.  Before you know it, medication might be a distant memory.  Contact Tri-State area child psychologist Dr. Steven Sussman at (908) 217-8106.

The History of ADHD

When we Baby Boomers were growing up this acronym was virtually unknown.  ADHD was actually mentioned for the first time more than a century ago by a British doctor Sir George Sill.  He described it as an “abnormal defect of moral control in children”.  Today, we understand that our kids are not defective just “wired a little differently”.

Seventy years or so ago it became all about drugs when Benzedrine was introduced as a medicine to control ADHD.  Doctors discovered a notable improvement in children’s overall behavior and in the classroom.  It was really not until 1968 when the APA finally identified “hyperkinetic impulse disorder”

Today’s parents have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to ADHD.  One thing is certain.  If you live in the New York Metropolitan Area there is an accomplished and highly respected child psychologist named Steven Sussman.  We invite you to give him a call and have you and your child (or children) visit him in his Mountainside NJ office at (908) 217-8106.

ADHD and Your Child.

When Johnny was young a lot of people told his mom that he was hyperactive.  As time and science evolved we learned to recognize ADHD.  This is how we refer to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.  Some kids may be inattentive only.  That was formally known simply as attention deficit disorder.  Some children are hyperactive and impulsive.

Any parent who sees these traits in their youngster has questions.  Among them are -

1.  Will my child outgrow ADHD?
2.  Does a child who exhibits these traits ALWAYS have ADHD?
3.  What causes it?
4.  And…is there a cure?

There are numerous factors that cause ADHD.  Some of them even trace back to genetics.  Doctor Steven Sussman may be an answer.  He will assess your children’s possible attention deficit hyperactivity disorder issues.  Dr. Sussman maintains offices in Union County, New Jersey and Staten Island, New York.  Make an appointment at one of his offices today to talk about your child’s specific issues by calling (908) 217-8106.

What Defines ADHD?

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) has been with us for generations.  ADHD is a very broad term that varies from person to person.  The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has estimated that there are nearly 6 and a half million kids who have been diagnosed with ADHD.  There are different types of this malady including inattentiveness and hyperactivity.

It is natural for a child to be fidgety with a short attention span.  However, when this becomes persistent to the point of disrupting their home or classroom then the problem needs to be addressed.  The signs should be rather apparent.  Consistently not focusing on simple tasks or anyone speaking to them is warning sign.  If your child talks excessively, squirms in his or her seat, or interrupts others constantly ADHD may be the culprit.

Seek the help of a professional when you start to become exasperated with your child’s erratic behavior.  Dr. Steven Sussman treats behavioral problems of childhood and adolescence from his offices located in Mountainside New Jersey and Staten Island NY.  Using child-friendly behavioral therapy Dr. Sussman will help your family get back on track.  Don’t hesitate another minute.  Give him a call at (908) 217 8106.
