Exactly With Whom Am I Trusting My Child’s Future?

It is a question that parents often ask when dealing with a teacher, a babysitter, or any care giver. How about with a Child Psychologist? That question may be more important than ever. My name is Dr. Steven Sussman. I got my PhD in Clinical Psychology more that 40 years ago and am now practicing out of my office located in Mountainside, NJ.

What is the “New Normal?”

It is a fair question. The question is…when will life return to normal after the coronavirus pandemic? The weeks of stay-at-home orders and school closures really hit hard in NYC and New Jersey. Parents are questioning whether isolation measures and physical distancing are doing lasting damage to their kids' emotional development.

Questions abound. Will this generation of school-aged kids grow up fearful of touching or standing too close? Will they know how to make friends or interact in group gatherings? And how will it affect their academics and job prospects?  Psychologists are still gathering data, but here's the consensus for the short term…most kids will return to normal.

If you have been noticing changing attitudes and behaviors within your household please waste no time in getting a handle on it. That is why I have an office in Mountainside, NJ and serve the New York Metropolitan area. My name is Dr. Steven Sussman a child psychologist. We will get a better understanding of any problems before THEY become an epidemic. Call (908) 217-8106.

A Time for Celebration.

December is the time of year for celebrations with those around you and maybe those that you only see during the holidays.  I hope that you will keep this in mind…it is a teachable time of year.  It’s a time to learn about tolerance and the acceptance of other cultures both in the United States and around this ever-shrinking globe.

Here are some of them -

1.  The fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe (A Mexican celebration)
2.  St. Lucia Day in Sweden
3.  Boxing Day in the British Commonwealth
4.  Kwanzaa (An African celebration)
5.  Hanukkah (A Jewish celebration around the world)
6.  Christmas, of course

These and other observances are a time for family and great reflection about our own culture and the tolerance of others.  I hope that you will take some time to reflect on this as you have your own celebration with family and friends.  I am New Jersey child psychologist Dr. Steven Sussman.  From my family to yours have a Happy Holiday Season.

Part B.

This is not a high school test.  Part B is all about insurance for kids that need psychological care.  Medicare Part B covers mental health services that you would generally get outside of a hospital, including visits with a clinical psychologist.  For those of you who have already researched this issue you know how stressful it can be!

For example, Medicaid Alternative Benefit Plans also must cover mental health and substance use disorder services.  These plans must have coverage of essential health benefits, which include 10 categories of benefits as defined under the health care law.  Knowing what you and your child qualify for is essential to your family budget.

Knowing whom to call for the kind of child psychological care you need is even more essential!  May we suggest noted New Jersey child psychologist Dr. Steven Sussman?  From his office located in Mountainside NJ he will help you in every way possible to qualify for the insurance that you need for ongoing visits.  Please call him for an appointment at (908) 217-8106.

What the Adults are Saying.

Oh this younger generation, they are spoiled and entitled and hopelessly glued to mass media.  A gentleman named Bruce Gibney even wrote a book about them entitled, 'A Generation of Sociopaths: How the Baby Boomers Betrayed America'.  That’s right Baby Boomers!  This is what “The Greatest Generation” said about US.

Now, the other side.  Author Sally Kane wrote that Baby Boomers were competitive, goal-oriented, and career-focused—and also nonconformist and willing to question authority.  Compared to their parents’ generation, Boomers were more likely to protest policies and social practices they saw as unjust.

I bring this up for one specific reason.  Everything they said about us (and other generations) are the same basic challenges that we face today.  Substitute the television for the Smart Phone and just listen to the criticism.  I am New Jersey child psychologist, Dr. Steven Sussman.  For decades I have heard it all.  The problems are not new…just the solutions.  Call me at (908) 217-8106.
