I’m Here for the Parents Too.

One of the most important responsibilities which I undertake is to counsel parents about the advantages as well as the disadvantages of medication for their specific child or children.  My goal is always to prevent, eliminate, or at least lessen the use of medication in children. Medication often masks or temporarily ameliorate bad behavior instead of correcting it.

Positive behaviors…it sounds easy, but it can be quite challenging as it pertains to the adults who feel that they have the correct solutions.  One of my main goals is to empower parents…to give them the understanding as well as the skills necessary to improve their relationship with their kid.

Parents, youngsters, we are in this together!  Make no mistake about it.  Reconfiguring your relationships is my first and foremost effort.  Together, we will build a strong bond between parents and children that will last a lifetime.  Please give me a call for a in-office consultation at my Mountainside NJ office by calling (908) 217-8106.

The Easy Way Out.

When you are considering medication for a child with emotional or behavioral problems, how you start is important, of course.  How you stop may be even more important!  With most psychoactive medications it’s important to consider the alternative…are you just taking the easy way out?

Maybe start with this premise…in any individual the brain is not cool with the idea of being pushed or pulled in any direction quickly.  There are a number of reasons to stop medicating such as -your kid has outgrown his/her symptoms.  Maybe their behavior has already stabilized.  Or, the medication is not working the way you had hoped.

My name is Dr. Steven Sussman and I would love to explore new positive behaviors in your children. We will also learn to correct preexisting bad behavioral patterns. I want to empower you (the parent) with the skills and understanding to improve your relationship with your child. Would you like to discuss it?  Please call me, Dr. Steven Sussman for a consultation at my Mountainside NJ office (908) 217-8106.
