My Child…My Legacy.

You know, it might be the right time for all parents to do some soul searching.  The future of your children reflects on you and, of course, your family’s legacy.  There are too many horror stories of teenagers committing unspeakable crimes around America.  There IS strength in numbers!  Isolation often brings resentment and unacceptable behavior.

If you think that child therapy is a stigma then how do you feel about your child making bad choices and doing things that send shivers up your spine?  All of this is not to scare anyone.  It merely points out the obvious.  If you ignore your children and think they will “outgrow” their feelings, you may be making a horrible mistake.

Why not talk to noted child psychologist Dr. Steven Sussman?  He has just about seen it all in his decades of dealing with families and their adolescent children who need the type of therapy that he provides.  Dr. Sussman has offices on Staten Island and in Mountainside NJ.  Please arrange a meeting with him by calling (908) 217-8106.

The Power of Empowerment.

It sounds a bit convoluted at first, but once you understand the importance of empowerment for your kid you’ll see what I mean.  It can be exhilarating to see your kids grow up and start doing things on their own. Now, it IS a bit terrifying to realize that someday soon they won’t need you anymore, but still, kudos to you for teaching your kids how to tie their own shoes!

Here are some methods to use to empower your children further –

1.  Teach them patience.  Tough to learn, even tougher to master.
2.  Slowly, but surely assign specific tasks and responsibilities.
3.  Give them something to care for…a pet, a plant, whatever.
4.  Teach them respect without being dictatorial.
5.  Show them the right path by behaving the way you would like to see them act.

There are more, of course, but the basics of human interaction and responsibility are the bridges that lead to maturity.  My name is Dr. Steven Sussman.  I have seen kids in various stages of growth and I know this…empowerment usually equals confidence!  Let’s work together to bring that synchronicity to your family.  Call me for an appointment at my Staten Island or Mountainside NJ office at (908) 217-8106.
