Keeping Siblings Together.

Just in case you have not heard, education department officials in the greater NYC area announced a new policy that will make it easier for siblings to attend the same school. Please understand that New York City families need to apply to middle schools, and students can end up traveling far from home.

Dr. Steven Sussman a noted NYC area child psychologist, wants to help you navigate through this and any other 2022-23 school year changes. We all know that this upcoming school year will look different than the last one, and certainly the one prior. Don’t be afraid to ask Dr. Steve for his unique brand of assistance in assimilating.

Dr. Steven Sussman, who has an office in Mountainside, NJ, has seen just about everything in his decades as a child psychologist. No one, however, has seen the type of roller coaster changes that our kids have been put through since the spring of 2020. Call Dr. Steven Sussman at (908) 217-8106. Wanna see something impressive? What the Schools Can Do to Help.

I obviously cannot personally consult with every troubled pre-teen in the New York/New Jersey area. I want to impart some advice to you, the school administrators, well before the 2022-23 school year begins. Together we can help the youth of our area…one kid at a time. My name is Dr. Steven Sussman, a child psychologist with an office in Mountainside, NJ.

Here are some suggestions gleaned from my decades of experience –

1.  Administrators…educate your staff AND the parents as best you can.

2.  Promote emotional competency.

3.  Maintain a positive and safe environment at your school.

4.  Reinforce positive decision making.

Above all, interact with the parents and the children of your school district to build a strong post-Covid environment. If you need to talk (and that includes school leaders and parents as well) please call me. My name again, is Dr. Steven Sussman and my number is (908) 217-8106. The Masks Come Off and the Excessive Talking Begins.

Did your kid’s teacher happen to notice that when their students were allowed to remove their masks that some of them may have begun talking at a rapid and louder rate? Some of that seems inevitable, and some may not. New York/New Jersey Child Psychologist may help you separate “the wheat from the chaff”.

You could start with this…excessive talking is a common symptom for kids with ADHD. They often have trouble inhibiting and controlling their responses. Or…it could be just the normal progression of their new-found freedom. There may very well be a fine line between the two.

It starts with a phone call to Dr. Steve. That’s Dr. Steven Sussman, who has practiced child psychology in the New York area for decades. No one (not even the Doc) has seen THIS before! He will begin helping you sort it out with a phone call to his Mountainside, NJ office at this number (908) 217-8106. You will see his impressive resume at sussmankids.com.

Blah, Blah, Blah.

That is often what kids hear when an adult tries to talk to them. The advice may be first rate, but when the message comes from someone over 30 it often falls on deaf ears. It’s easy for us to look back and say…”I wasn’t like that.”. Yes, you were! So, what should a parent do in this day and age to help their kid become a better person?

Dr. Steven Sussman has an idea. Get quirky. Eschew the norms of preachiness and get through to today’s youth by talking with them, NOT at them. It seems logical, but it comes with years of dealing with kids who are adolescents or teens. It ain’t easy, but it is doable.

Dr. Steven Sussman is a child psychologist practicing in the New York/New Jersey area out of Mountainside, NJ. Are you exhausted trying to communicate with your kid(s)? Call Dr. Steve for a phone consultation and get to know him. That phone number is (908) 217-8106. Get a really good look at his background by visiting sussmankids.com.

What Expectations are you Expecting from your Kid(s)?

Expectations…they come in all shapes and sizes, and they give us great pride, or they may cripple us. What expectations do you have for your kid(s)? It is a competitive world out there. That has NOT changed with Covid. I am Dr. Steven Sussman a New York/New Jersey child psychologist who wants to help you manage your expectations for your kid(s).

If you have noticed a rebellion in your child and at times even becoming unlikeable among their peers, you may be seeing the signs of ODD. ODD is short for Oppositional Defiant Disorder. The teachers in our public schools around New York City tend to teach memorization and NOT (necessarily) hands-on skills. This can lead to ODD.

Let’s explore this behavior in your child. It starts with a phone call to my office. That phone number is (908) 217-8106. We will discuss what you are seeing in your child before making any generalizations. I will help you make your most important job a little easier…being a GREAT parent. Please see my website at sussmankids.com.
